5 Spring Tips to Add to the ‘To Do’ List

Is spring really here? If you’re from the Midwest you might literally be jumping for joy right now — I am! Ahhh, the sun is shining, birds are chirping and perhaps even the snow is melting. Whoo-hoo! What does spring bring for us pet parents of the world? A whole lot!

As a precursor, I’m a pretty tidy person. I Love — with a capital “L” — warm weather and I am a pretty big wimp when it comes to driving, walking and surviving in the snowy conditions. I’ve got to be honest with you and say that I’ve let a few things go this winter.

I’ve compiled a handy-dandy list of to-dos that most likely need to be on your list as well. Shall we start?

1.    Clean up the poop in the yard. Yes, this takes the #1 spot on my list. There have been a few nice days where I’ve convinced myself to grab the GO! Bags and get the yard clean. I know that immediately when the snow melts away (ok it’s already melted) I will see that my #2 cleaning skills have failed me…again.

2.    Give Shay a nice, long bath with Fur-So-Fresh Whiff Shampoo. I have a Shih Tzu. Odor-control technology is required. Enough said.

3.    Buy Shay a new dog bed, or at least clean her blanket after the bath. Time and time again, I forget to switch out Shay’s blanket on her doggie bed after her bath. I actually have to write this one “to do” down to remember. All the outside comes inside on her feet and in her fur. If you forget to wash the bed and/or blanket she’ll smell just like she did before her bath!

 4.    Walk Shay at least four times a week! Don’t forget the doggie bag holder. Wish I could say that Shay’s been on hundreds of walks this winter. I am not a very good liar…my husband reads these posts. He knows better. I also have a 2-year-old daughter who  loves walks. It’s a two-for-one deal!

 5.    Treat Shay with SENTRY Fiproguard Plus IGR flea and tick squeeze-on. I work for Sergeant’s Pet Care Products. Last year I actually forgot to treat my dog for fleas and ticks. Do you know how embarrassing that was? When Shay brought fleas home from the park with her last year, I immediately kicked myself in the foot. Lesson learned. Here’s to a more proactive spring 2014!

We’ve survived another winter! That’s something to be proud of. I sure am. Spring is going to be a blast: camping, walking, traveling and much more. And you know what? I think I’ll bring my dog, Shay. Keep visiting us right here on blog.sergeants.com for more tips, tricks and interesting advice about everything under the sun (let’s hope it stays sunny).

Until then, share your spring pet-cleaning tips in the comments below. I’m sure there are a few I missed. Happy Spring!
