National Thank a Police Dog Week

Thanks to pet lovers like you, PetArmor’s first National Thank a Police Dog Week was a huge success! Kicking off on April 28, National Thank a Police Dog Week was an opportunity to thank law enforcement K-9 officers and their human counterpart for putting their lives on the line to help keep us safe. We received more than 150 notes of support and were featured in TV, radio and print! One example is K-9 officer Reno and his human counterpart, officer Ledogar, discussing National Thank a Police Dog Week during a live segment on FOX 5 Las Vegas.

K-9s are usually the first officer to enter a dangerous situation and help track and neutralize violent criminals, sniff out illegal or explosive materials and search for survivors of natural disasters. More often than not, law enforcement agencies do not have the budget to provide bullet- and stab-protective vests for their K-9 officers because each vest costs approximately $1,000. As a result, police dogs are left unprotected while fighting crime.

PetArmor is helping to ensure that more K-9s are protected while in the line of duty. In 2013, PetArmor partnered with Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. — a nonprofit organization that provides bullet- and stab-protective vests to police organizations nationwide — and vested 25 dogs in Florida, Texas and Maryland. This year, PetArmor is donating an additional 25 vests that will benefit K-9 officers at police departments in Miami and Detroit.

Thanks again for helping us support our nation’s K-9 officers! To learn more about PetArmor’s relationship with Vested Interest in K9s, visit www.petarmor.com/vested-interest. If you didn’t have a chance to thank a K-9 officer during National Thank a Police Dog Week, send your thanks by commenting on this post!
